AI Policy
The New Zealand Science Review editorial committee takes the position that all submissions should be authored by humans. In doing this we follow the position of the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE) asserting that as AI tools cannot take responsibility for the work they produce, they should not be attributed authorship.
It is our expectation that the ideas, and interpretation of data presented in the New Zealand Science Review are substantively the work of the authors. This position does not preclude the use of AI tools in the preparation of the manuscript, for example in data analysis, or correction of grammar. Where AI tools have been used, their use should be disclosed, including details of the tool used.
The use of content generated by AI tools in manuscripts submitted to the New Zealand Science Review should be cognisant of issues such as data privacy, intellectual property and copyright. These issues are the author’s responsibility and require familiarity with the terms and conditions of any AI Tool used.
