Editorial Board Member Applications

2024-05-15

The New Zealand Science Review provides a forum for the discussion of issues of relevance to science in Aotearoa New Zealand in the past, present and future. It is aimed at scientists, decision makers, and the interested public. See our website for an in-depth list of topics of interest

The Editorial Board of the New Zealand Science Review is calling for applicants in one of two categories.

Editorial Board Members - We are seeking researchers based in Aotearoa New Zealand who are interested in joining the journal as editors responsible for managing the review process for individual submissions. Applicants should have an interest in the workings of the science sector, and prior experience with the peer review process. Previous editorial experience is not required.

We strongly encourage applications from early career researchers, researchers who are not in permanent positions, researchers with independent organisations, and researchers who bring viewpoints from underrepresented groups in the research and science sector.

Postgraduate Interns - The current Editorial Board is looking for two current postgraduate students or recent PhD graduates (<2 years) who are interested in learning about the behind-the-scenes processes of journal editorial decision-making and peer review. They will be partnered with Editorial Board members to work through the peer review process, with the goal that they will become capable of handling submissions independently.

This opportunity is particularly aimed at postgraduate and recent PhD recipient researchers who have not yet had the opportunity to participate in peer review as a reviewer.

These are volunteer positions, expected to require a commitment of a couple of hours a month, usually asynchronous.

Interested applicants should send their CV and a short expression of interest to editor@scientists.org.nz by 30/6/24. Please indicate which position (Editorial Board Member or Postgraduate Intern) you are applying for.
