Call For Papers: Special Issue On the Research System Crisis

2024-07-21
Following the current special issue focusing on the crisis in our universities, the next special issue for the New Zealand Science Review will focus on the wider research system. Funding cuts are leading to widespread job losses and concerns about generational damage to the research and science system. We are calling for papers discussing this issue, to be published in 2024/early 2025. Relevant topics could include:
  • the past and current impacts of the research and science system in Aotearoa New Zealand
  • the history of our research institutions
  • the past and current research and science workforce
  • proposals for more effective and stable support of research and science
  • proposals for the future shape of the research and science system (material submitted to the Science System Advisory Group is welcome)
  • impacts of the current crisis on our broader society
  • any other articles relevant to this topic which fall within the remit of the NZSR (see the full scope of the journal).
Queries about relevance, potential article length, etcetera are welcome and can be sent to editor@scientists.org.nz.   We currently plan to close submissions for this special issue on September 15th, 2024 to allow for review and publication of the full issue within an appropriate timeframe.
