Abstract

In 1980, Keri Hulme commented upon the ‘intense sisterhood’ that she felt with ‘women like Jean Devanny.’ She saw her as ‘exploring things on the fringes that were very important to women way back then’, and considered it ‘very freeing (and very oppressive at the same time) to realise how completely these women were submerged’ (101).
