This paper is intended as an introduction to a disputes resolving procedure peculiar to the New Zealand mining industry. To the best of the writer's knowledge no previous attempt has been made to describe this mdustrial tribunal (Coal Mines Council). I could find no trace of any in-depth study on the value of this and other industrial decision-making bodies in New Zealand. It has not been possible therefore to draw comparisons. The opinions expressed are those of the writer, and not necessarily those of the Mines Department, Coal Mine Owners or Miners' Unions.Downloads
