This article identifies some themes and issues from early childhood education policy, research, pedagogy, and practice in Aotearoa 2003. It weaves together some selected themes from the Eighth Early Childhood Convention, held in Palmerston North in September 2003, together with reflections on the concept and development of early childhood centres of innovation (COIs).
