This article describes the process for developing the Ministry of Education’s “Strategic Research Initiative”, and the thinking behind it, in particular the literature reviews commissioned by the Ministry in 1999 and published in 2000. Each of the reviews is briefly described to indicate some of the key themes which, along with consultation with the research community, are a means of helping Ministry staff to identify potential priorities for strategic research.Downloads
