Abstract

Geoffrey Potocki de Montalk born in Auckland in 1903 was a poet but his work was boycotted by the mainstream literary establishment for reasons he believed because of his politics. His life was extraordinarily full but his literary legacy is under debate because of his social and political activities.

Author Biography

Stephanie de Montalk

Wellington-based poet and biographer, has also worked as a nurse, a university hostel warden and a documentary film maker. Her first poetry collection Animals Indoors (2000) won a Montana Award for Best First Book of Poetry. A second collection (The Scientific Evidence of Dr Wang) was published in 2002. Unequal World, her biography of her second cousin, Count Geoffrey Potocki de Montalk, was published in 2001.
