Author Biography

Richard Hill

Richard Hill is an historian who specialises in colonial policing and the history of Crown-Maori relations. He is a Professor of New Zealand Studies at the Stout Research Centre for New Zealand Studies, where he is also Director of the Treaty of Waitangi Research Unit. His six books include State Authority, Indigenous Autonomy (2004) and Maori and the State (2009), which jointly comprise a history of the relationship between Maori and the New Zealand Crown throughout the twentieth century.
