Edmund Bohan, Victoria University of Wellington

Edmund Bohan is the current John David Stout Fellow and is working on a biography of James Edward Fitzgerald. This article is based on a seminar he gave at the Stout Research Centre on 6 September 1995.

Edmund Bohan divides his time between opera and history. A history graduate of Canterbury University, he returned to Christchurch in 1988 after 25 years as a professional singer in Britain and in many other countries. Edmund Bohan sang Arturo in Canterbury Opera's recent production of Lucia di Lammamoor. Hazard Press has published his biography, Edward Stafford: New Zealand's First Statesman. He will be in residence as the David Stout Fellow at the Stout Research Centre in 1995.

Edmund Bohan was the J.D. Stout Research fellow in 1995. He is the author of Edward Stafford: New Zealand's First Statesman' (1994), 'Blest Madman': Fitzgerald of Canterbury (1998), To Be a Hero: a biography of Sir George Grey (1998), New Zealand the Story so Far (1997), and the historical novels The Opawa Affari (1996) and The Dancing Man (1997). He has also had a distinguished career as an operatic and concert singer in Britain, Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand.
