Abstract

The three strands of research that are drawn upon to explore how ordinary New Zealanders imagine the country, their culture and their community are discussed. The different strands discussed indicate uncertainty about both New Zealanders' and New Zealand culture.

Author Biography

Amanda Gilbertson

Amanda Gilbertson completed a Masters in Anthropology at Victoria University of Wellington in 2007 and is currently a DPhil candidate at the University of Oxford. Her research interests include ethnic and national identities, the Indian diaspora, modernity and education in India.
