Abstract

The ways in which the garden provides a kind of lens for understanding individual responses in the broader society in New Zealand are discussed. The work of Pierre Bourdieu is highlighted to better understand, identify and broaden class in domestic gardens.

Author Biography

Anna Gruner

Anna Gruner completed her MA in Anthropology at Victoria University in 2005. Her interests include expressions of class in everyday life, migration and identity. She is currently employed by the Department of Labour where she is involved in a three year research programme looking at refugee integration in New Zealand.
