Abstract

This article describes the long and wide search for information about eight WWI Marist chaplains, which then was used for a memorial display in the Marist Archives and an article in the Marist Messenger.

Author Biographies

Elizabeth Charlton

After tertiary study at Victoria University in French and German and teacher's college in Auckland, Elizabeth spent six years in France where she studied law in the accelerated programme run by the University of Paris 1 - Pantheon-Sorbonne. A Master of Education followed in Melbourne. She joined the Marist Archives as a volunteer to gain practical experience while studying for the Diploma in Records and Information Management and is now their Archivist. She attended the 47th Georgia Archives Institute.

Ken Scadden

Ken Scadden studied at Victoria University to B.A. Honours level. Later, he attended the University of New South Wales and obtained the Diploma of Information Management-Archives Administration. He joined National Archives and served as Cartographic Archivist (briefly!), Reference Archivist and Assistant Director Wellington, then became Archivist/ Curator, then Director of the Wellington Maritime Museum. As Museum Director he was responsible for its transformation into the Museum of Wellington City and Sea. He then ran his own consultancy company, Heritage Advisory Services providing assistance to both archives and museums. Currently he is Archives Manager for the Marist Archives in Wellington.
