Forty years ago at the Annual Conference of the Library Association (New Zealand), a resolution was passed to establish a bulletin for the voice of the archives and record keeping profession in New Zealand. Rather than summarising the birth of Archifacts in my own words, I have included Stuart Strachan’s first editorial. Stuart’s words of course, provide a marvelous foundation for understanding the establishment and ethos which was at the heart of this publication.
