Abstract

This obituary pays tribute to the late archivist Ken Scadden, tracing his career at Cartographic Archivist at National Archives, as director of the Wellington Maritime Museum and as Archives Manager for the Marist Archives. This obituary lists some of his contributions to Archifacts, and some comments from colleagues and friends, including recollections from Elizabeth Charlton about his work at the Marist Archives.

Author Biographies

Mark Stoddart

Mark Stoddart started work as an Archivist at Archives New Zealand, Wellington Office on 14 March 1979, and studied for the Diploma in Information (Archives Administration) at the University of New South Wales in 1985. Prior to moving to Auckland as Regional Archivist in 1986, he was Head of Reference Services at Archives New Zealand, Wellington Office.

Elizabeth Charlton, Society of Mary

Elizabeth Charlton is the Province Archivist for the Society of Mary in New Zealand. As a sole archivist, all archival management functions are incumbent upon her and it is in this position that her interest in digital archives was awakened. She was the 2014 recipient of the Ian McLean Wards Scholarship to research digital preservation practices for very small archives. Elizabeth currently serves on the National Council of ARANZ as Vice President.
