Abstract

This obituary gives a tribute to Teresia Teaiwa, former lecturer of Pacific Studies at Victoria University of Wellington.  Teaiwa's work connecting students to the islands of the Pacific is highlighted, as well as how she introduced her students to using libraries and archives, and how archives can help these students understand their histories.

Author Biography

Emalani Case, Victoria University of Wellington

Emalani Case is a lecturer in Pacific Studies at Victoria University of Wellington. Case coordinates core Pacific Studies courses focusing on Pacific heritages, histories in Polynesia, and the role of artists and activists in reframing Pacific societies. Her research involves Hawaiian articulations of identity and nationalism, sovereignty, and decolonising indigenous minds and bodies. She comes to New Zealand from Waimea, Hawai’i.
