Abstract

This article explores how libraries and other institutions might integrate social media to highlight their special collections, and identifies limitations that may prevent successful social media activities. The importance of integrating social media with current library practice is discussed, as well as associated limitations and challenges. Some New Zealand institutions that are successfully promoting their digitised special collections in the Gallery, Library, Archives and Musuem (GLAM) sector are highlighted.
