Author Biography

Barbara Brookes

Barbara Brookes is Professor Emerita in History, University of Otago. She is the author of the prize-winning A History of Women in New Zealand (Bridget Williams Books, 2016). Much of her research and many of her publications have concentrated on the intersections between the history of women and the history of medicine. Her most recent co-edited publication explores questions about archives: Barbara
Brookes and James Dunk, Knowledge Making: Historians, Archives and Bureaucracy (Routledge, 2020). She is nearing completion of a book about Anna Longshore Potts, a pioneering American woman doctor, provisionally entitled The Theatre of Medicine.
